Heart scarring on MRI may decide who gets a lifesaving implant
NCT ID NCT07415642
First seen Feb 19, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study looks at 720 people with a weakened heart muscle (non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy) and a low pumping ability. Researchers want to see if using an MRI to find heart scarring can help decide who benefits most from getting an implantable defibrillator (ICD) to prevent sudden cardiac death. Participants with scarring will be randomly assigned to get an ICD or standard medication, while those without scarring will be tracked in a registry. The goal is to reduce deaths and improve quality of life.
