First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether an upper jaw expansion device can encourage the lower jaw to grow forward in children aged 9-11 with an overbite. Sixty participants will receive either an active or non-active Wilson quadhelex appliance for 9 months. Jaw growth is measured with special X-rays before and after treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Wilson quadhelex appliance (dental device)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide a non-surgical way to help children with a receding lower jaw achieve better jaw alignment.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 60 participants. The device may not produce meaningful lower jaw growth, and results may not apply to all children.
