Scientists track blood cells to solve mystery of anemia in the elderly
NCT ID NCT01572506
Summary
This study aimed to understand why many older adults develop anemia (low red blood cells) without a clear cause. Researchers tracked how long red blood cells live in healthy younger adults, healthy older adults, and older adults with different types of anemia. They used a safe vitamin label to follow the cells over time to see if they break down faster in older people.
