Scientists hunt for environmental causes of crippling muscle disease
NCT ID NCT01276470
Summary
This study aims to understand if certain environmental factors, like infections, chemicals, or stressful events, might trigger a rare autoimmune disease that weakens muscles and can affect the lungs. Researchers will compare the past exposures of 580 people—including those with the disease, a specific subgroup, and healthy volunteers—using questionnaires, blood tests, and home dust samples. The goal is to identify potential risk factors to better understand what causes this condition.
