One session or two? study tests if combining physical and occupational therapy helps stroke recovery
NCT ID NCT07411534
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jul 17, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study looks at whether having physical therapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) together in one session works as well as having them separately for stroke patients in the hospital. About 567 adults admitted for acute stroke will be randomly assigned to either co-treatment or individual sessions. Researchers will measure how well patients can move and do daily activities by the time they leave the hospital.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If co-treatment proves as effective as individual therapy, hospitals could save time and resources without compromising patient recovery.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage pragmatic trial at a single center, so results may not apply to all hospitals or stroke patients. The study compares existing approaches, not a new treatment.
