Arm cuffs tested to protect brain after stroke surgery

Summary
This large study is testing if a simple, non-invasive procedure called remote ischemic conditioning (RIC) can help people recover better after emergency surgery to remove a stroke-causing blood clot. RIC involves briefly inflating and deflating a blood pressure cuff on the arm. Researchers want to see if this can protect the brain from damage that can happen after blood flow is restored, helping more patients regain independence. The trial will enroll over 2100 adults who have had a major stroke and are undergoing the clot-removal procedure.
