Silent brain damage: could common heart drugs prevent stroke and dementia?
NCT ID NCT07012629
First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 15 times
Summary
This study looks at people whose MRI scans show small areas of brain damage called covert brain infarcts (CBIs), which are linked to a higher risk of future stroke and dementia. Researchers want to see if giving stroke-preventing medications (antiplatelets or statins) can reduce that risk. About 1,650 participants across Europe will be randomly assigned to treatment or no treatment and followed for three years.
