First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tests whether using a stress ball can lower pain, anxiety, and changes in heart rate and blood pressure during chest tube removal after open heart surgery. About 46 adults who have one chest tube after surgery will be split into two groups: one group will squeeze a stress ball during the procedure, and the other will receive standard care. Researchers will measure pain and anxiety levels right after the tube is removed and again 15 and 30 minutes later.
