First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested a program where community health workers were trained to help people with opioid addiction get and stay in treatment, with support from their families. Over 1,600 adults who use drugs took part in communes across Vietnam. The goal was to see if this community-based approach improves the entire care process, from seeking help to staying in recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could improve how communities support people with addiction, making it easier for them to get help and stay in treatment.
What could go wrong
This was a behavioral study, not a drug trial, so results may not apply to other settings. Success depends on local community involvement and resources.
