Bowel stimulation before stoma closure: a microbiome mystery unraveled
NCT ID NCT07640113
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether stimulating the unused part of the bowel before closing an ileostomy (a temporary stoma) can help restore healthy gut bacteria and tissue. About 90 adults will be split into three groups: no stimulation, stimulation with a saline solution, or stimulation with their own stool. The goal is to understand how this affects recovery and reduces complications like bowel paralysis after surgery.
