Electric brain zaps show promise for tough schizophrenia symptoms
NCT ID NCT02744989
First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study tested whether a gentle brain stimulation technique called tDCS can help people with schizophrenia whose symptoms don't fully improve with medication alone. 141 participants received either real or fake (placebo) stimulation over 5 days. The goal was to see if the real stimulation could reduce symptoms like hallucinations or withdrawal. The treatment is meant to be used alongside regular medication, not replace it.
