Could common steroids be a lifesaver for severe pneumonia?
NCT ID NCT02517489
Summary
This large study tested whether adding a low-dose steroid (hydrocortisone) to standard antibiotic and breathing support treatment could help more critically ill patients survive severe pneumonia. It involved 952 adults in intensive care with life-threatening pneumonia. The goal was to see if the steroid, given for 8-14 days, could reduce harmful lung inflammation and improve the chance of survival 28 days later.
