New study aims to cut opioid need after common knee surgery

NCT ID NCT07158476

Summary

This study is testing if adding a short course of a steroid pill (methylprednisolone) to standard pain medication can better control pain and reduce the need for opioid pills after ACL knee surgery. About 90 patients aged 13-50 having ACL repair will be randomly assigned to get either the steroid pack or a different anti-inflammatory drug. Researchers will track participants' pain levels and opioid pill use for two weeks after surgery to see which approach works better.
