First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tested whether injecting a long-lasting pain medicine (liposomal bupivacaine) into the breastbone area before the surgeon makes the cut can reduce the need for opioid painkillers after heart surgery. 70 adults having heart surgery through the breastbone took part. The goal was to see if this approach leads to less pain and lower opioid use compared to standard care.
