Stem cell shot for frailty? early safety trial begins

NCT ID NCT07462819

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This early-stage study tests whether a stem cell product called Stemis™ is safe for older adults with mild to moderate frailty. Frailty causes weakness, slow walking, and reduced daily function, with no approved treatments. Around 12 people aged 60–85 will receive either Stemis™ or a placebo, and researchers will monitor for side effects and explore changes in strength and mobility.

Active substance

Stemis™ (human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells)

What this could lead to

If safe, this could pave the way for larger studies exploring whether stem cells can ease frailty symptoms like weakness and slow walking.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small Phase 1 trial with only 12 people. It is designed to check safety, not effectiveness, so it may not lead to any treatment.
