Could belly fat stem cells mend broken jaws faster?

NCT ID NCT07671183

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether stem cells taken from a patient's own belly fat can improve bone healing after surgery for a broken jaw. Twenty adults with jaw fractures will either get standard surgery plus stem cells or standard surgery alone. Researchers will check bone density and complications over three months to see if the stem cells help.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a way to speed up and improve bone healing after jaw fractures, reducing complications.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early study with only 20 people. It may not show a clear benefit, and the stem cell procedure adds extra steps and risks like infection or bleeding.
