First seen Jan 27, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study looks at whether antibiotics are necessary after surgery for a broken jaw. About 2,800 adults having jaw surgery will be randomly assigned to receive no antibiotics, a short course, or a longer course after their operation. The goal is to see if skipping or reducing antibiotics is safe and effective at preventing infections, which could help reduce antibiotic resistance and side effects.
