Placental stem cells injected to help stroke patients recover
NCT ID NCT07635758
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-stage trial tests whether stem cells from the placenta, given through an IV, are safe and might help people recover from a recent stroke. About 24 participants will receive either the stem cells or a placebo. Researchers will track their recovery over two years, focusing on regaining independence.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
human placental-derived mesenchymal stem cells
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a new treatment to help people recover better after a stroke.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small trial (24 people) focused mainly on safety. The stem cells may not improve recovery, and there are risks like allergic reactions or infection from the infusion.
