Pioneering trial tests stem cells in utero to fight devastating brittle bone disease

NCT ID NCT03706482

Summary

This early-stage trial is testing whether stem cells from a donor, given to infants before or after birth, are safe and can help treat severe osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease). The study involves up to 18 infants and compares them to children who did not receive this treatment. The main goals are to check for safety and see if the treatment reduces the number of bone fractures and improves bone density.
