Could storing your own stem cells shield bone marrow during cancer treatment?
NCT ID NCT05401175
First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial investigates whether collecting and storing a patient's own blood stem cells before chemoradiotherapy, then re-infusing them after treatment, can help rebuild healthy blood cells faster. The study includes 40 women with cervical cancer who are scheduled for chemoradiotherapy. The goal is to reduce severe neutropenia (dangerously low white blood cell counts) and prevent treatment delays.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
autologous blood transfusion with hematopoietic stem cells
What this could lead to
If it works, this approach could reduce severe side effects like low white blood cell counts, helping patients complete their cancer treatment on schedule.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The procedure carries risks of infection or transfusion reactions.
