Stem cells may mend eyes damaged by diabetes

Summary
This study explores whether special stem cells made from a person's own blood can help repair damaged blood vessels in the eye caused by diabetic retinopathy. Researchers will take blood from 20 people with diabetes and healthy volunteers to create these stem cells in a lab. The cells will then be tested in animals to see if they can grow new, healthy blood vessels in the eye. This is early research to understand if this approach could one day lead to a treatment.
