Surgery for severe constipation may weaken anal control

NCT ID NCT02052063

Summary

This study aimed to understand how a specific rectal surgery (STARR procedure) affects the anal muscles' ability to control bowel movements. Researchers measured anal muscle function before and after surgery in 9 patients with severe constipation caused by a rectal bulge. The goal was to see if the surgery could weaken the anal muscles and lead to incontinence problems.
