New study pits two kidney stone surgeries Head-to-Head

NCT ID NCT07322471

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study compares two surgeries for large, branching kidney stones (staghorn stones): flexible ureteroscopy (FURS) and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). PCNL is standard but has higher risks; FURS is less invasive but may need multiple sessions. 138 adults with staghorn stones will be randomly assigned to one surgery. The main goal is to see which method removes stones more completely in one session, while also tracking complications and surgery time.
