Diabetes drug dapagliflozin tested to shield hearts during breast cancer treatment
NCT ID NCT07070765
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether dapagliflozin, a diabetes drug, can prevent heart damage caused by anthracycline chemotherapy in breast cancer patients. About 70 women aged 18-70 with low to medium heart risk will take either dapagliflozin or standard care during their chemo. The goal is to see if the drug helps keep the heart's energy levels healthy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Dapagliflozin (a diabetes drug that may protect the heart)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a way to prevent heart damage in breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study (70 people) testing a drug not yet proven for this use. It may not show a clear benefit, and side effects from dapagliflozin are possible.
