Summary
This study tests a personalized program called SPOT-ON for cancer patients suffering from severe shortness of breath. Participants will receive a combination of breathing techniques, relaxation methods, posture adjustments, and oxygen-based therapies, either starting early or after a delay. The goal is to see if this tailored approach can safely reduce breathlessness and improve comfort. The trial is recruiting 150 adults with cancer who are hospitalized and have significant breathing difficulty.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
structured personalized oxygen and supportive therapies (breathing techniques, relaxation, posture, distraction, and oxygen-based therapies)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a new, personalized approach to help cancer patients manage severe shortness of breath, improving comfort and quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is an early-to-mid stage trial with only 150 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The therapies are supportive and not expected to cure the underlying cancer.
