Swallow this sponge instead of a scope? new test aims to spot esophageal cancer risk

NCT ID NCT06071845

Summary

This study is testing a simple, swallowable sponge device called Cytosponge as an easier way to screen for Barrett's esophagus, a condition that can lead to esophageal cancer. The goal is to see if this non-invasive test, which collects cells from the esophagus, can accurately identify who needs a follow-up endoscopy. Researchers will enroll 400 patients who are already scheduled for an endoscopy to compare the sponge test results with the standard procedure.
