New MRI technique aims to spot hidden heart problems

NCT ID NCT06854458

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study will enroll 1,000 adults aged 35-85 with chest pain or shortness of breath to see if a new, detailed MRI blood flow measurement can more accurately diagnose heart disease than standard MRI. Participants will receive a contrast agent called Gadavist during stress and rest imaging. The goal is to improve diagnosis and reduce unnecessary invasive procedures.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Gadavist (gadobutrol contrast agent)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could make heart disease diagnosis more accurate and help doctors better understand its severity without invasive procedures.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. The new MRI method may not prove more useful than standard imaging, and results may not apply to all patients.
