New Heat-and-Zap combo fights spine tumors

NCT ID NCT02713269

Summary

This study is testing whether using two treatments together works better than one to control cancer that has spread to the spine and is at risk of pressing on the spinal cord. Doctors combine a heat treatment (thermal ablation) that destroys tumor cells with a very precise, high-dose radiation treatment (stereotactic radiosurgery). The goal is to shrink the tumor and relieve pressure on the spinal cord to prevent pain and paralysis in 60 patients with various types of solid cancer.
