Zapping a nerve to rewire the brain? new hope for spinal injury patients

NCT ID NCT04288245

Summary

This study is testing whether a small implanted device that gently stimulates a neck nerve (the vagus nerve) can help the brain and spinal cord rewire themselves during physical therapy. The goal is to improve arm and hand strength and function for people living with chronic spinal cord injuries. Researchers will compare results in a small group of participants who receive the real stimulation to those who receive a placebo during their rehab exercises.
