New injection could slash painkiller need after spine surgery

Summary
This study is testing whether a specific nerve block injection given before minimally invasive back surgery can help reduce pain and the need for opioid painkillers after the operation. Researchers will compare the injection of a local anesthetic to a placebo (saltwater) in 125 adults having surgery for common degenerative spine problems. The main goal is to see if this block lowers the amount of opioids patients need while in the hospital and helps them recover with fewer side effects.
