Spine length may help prevent blood pressure drops during C-Sections

NCT ID NCT06869434

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether using the length of the lower spine to calculate spinal anesthesia dose during C-sections could lower the risk of a dangerous drop in blood pressure. 446 women were randomly assigned to receive a dose based on spine length or standard height-based dosing. The goal was to see which method led to fewer cases of low blood pressure during surgery.

What this could lead to

If successful, this dosing method could reduce the risk of dangerously low blood pressure during C-sections, making spinal anesthesia safer.

What could go wrong

This is a completed study, but the approach may not work for all patients or settings. The results need confirmation in broader populations.
