New scan could spot lymphoma without PET

NCT ID NCT04292626

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This early study tested a new radioactive tracer called 99mTc-1-thio-D-glucose in 16 adults with Hodgkin or non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The tracer was injected once, and SPECT scans were taken over 24 hours to see where it went in the body. The goal was to check safety and whether the tracer can highlight tumors, potentially offering a simpler imaging option than PET scans.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Technetium-99m labeled 1-Thio-D-Glucose (99mTc-1-thio-D-glucose)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a more accessible imaging option for lymphoma, potentially replacing or complementing PET scans.

What could go wrong

This is a very early phase 1 study with only 16 participants. It focuses on safety and imaging feasibility, not treatment. The new tracer may not prove better than existing methods.
