Light-Based scanner could help surgeons remove all cancer in one go
NCT ID NCT07459062
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing a new device called SPCTRone that uses light to analyze tissue during breast cancer surgery. The goal is to see if it can accurately tell surgeons whether all cancer has been removed, right in the operating room. About 100 women having breast-conserving surgery will take part, and the device's results will be compared to standard lab tests.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
SPCTRone system (a device that uses light to analyze tissue)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could give surgeons real-time feedback during breast cancer surgery, reducing the need for second operations.
What could go wrong
This is an early feasibility study with only 100 participants. The device is still being trained and may not yet be accurate enough for routine use.
