Space stress test: 110 hours of sleep deprivation and booze to mimic astronaut risks

NCT ID NCT07293494

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looks at how lack of sleep and alcohol impair thinking and movement, similar to what astronauts might face in space. Fifty-six healthy adults aged 25-60 will stay in a lab for about 110 hours, go without sleep for 27 hours, and drink alcohol to a 0.08 BAC on another day. They will do thinking and balance tasks, plus MRI scans and blood tests, to help predict and reduce risks during spaceflight.
