Protein blood test aims to personalize heart care, but study stalls

NCT ID NCT04836117

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looked at whether a new blood test called SomaSignal could help doctors make better treatment decisions for people at higher risk of heart disease. The test measures proteins in the blood to predict heart risks. Only 12 people took part before the study was stopped early, so we have very little information on whether it works.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

SomaSignal Test (protein-based blood test)

What this could lead to

If successful, this test could help doctors personalize heart disease prevention by identifying who needs more aggressive treatment.

What could go wrong

The study was terminated early with only 12 participants, so results are very limited. It is not clear if the test actually improves health outcomes.
