Can a simple bleach step make tooth stains disappear?

NCT ID NCT07162077

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether adding a sodium hypochlorite (bleach-like) solution to a standard tooth-resin treatment can better hide yellow or brown stains on front teeth caused by a condition called molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH). Twenty-four teeth from children with MIH will be randomly assigned to get the resin treatment with or without the extra bleach step. Researchers will measure color change and ask parents how satisfied they are with the results.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
sodium hypochlorite 5.25%
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a better way to lighten or mask stubborn yellow/brown stains on front teeth caused by MIH, improving smile appearance.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study with only 24 teeth, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment is cosmetic and may not fully hide the opacity.
