First seen Mar 20, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study tests whether adding sodium benzoate (a common food preservative) to a non-invasive brain stimulation technique called tDCS can improve thinking and daily function in people with early Alzheimer's or mild cognitive impairment. About 140 participants will receive tDCS for two weeks and then be randomly assigned to one of three doses of sodium benzoate or a placebo for 24 weeks. The goal is to find the best dose for slowing cognitive decline.
