Brain zap & food preservative combo tested to slow Alzheimer's

NCT ID NCT05006781

Summary

This study is testing if adding a common food preservative (sodium benzoate) to a non-invasive brain stimulation treatment (tDCS) can help people in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease. It involves 140 participants with mild memory problems who will receive brain stimulation for two weeks and then take either sodium benzoate or a placebo pill for 24 weeks. The goal is to see if the combination is better at improving thinking skills, daily function, and quality of life than brain stimulation alone.
