Can a social media platform help manage gestational diabetes?
NCT ID NCT06292871
First seen Sep 15, 2026 · Last updated Sep 16, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot trial tests whether a social media platform can provide continuous dietary and lifestyle support for women with gestational diabetes. Forty pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes receive either usual care from a diabetes nurse and dietitian, or usual care plus access to a social media platform where they can ask a dietitian questions and get educational resources. Researchers measure how acceptable and satisfying the women find the platform, how much they engage with it, and whether it helps with emotional well-being and blood sugar control.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Extra gestational diabetes support through a social media platform, added to usual care from a diabetes nurse and dietitian
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a low-cost way for pregnant women with gestational diabetes to get ongoing diet and lifestyle advice between clinic visits.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot study of 40 women, so it can only show whether the approach is practical and acceptable, not whether it improves health outcomes. Results may not apply to women without smartphone access or to other healthcare settings.
