AI scribe trial aims to cure doctor burnout

NCT ID NCT07302906

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jul 07, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests whether an artificial intelligence (AI) scribe can reduce the time and effort doctors spend on medical notes during patient visits. The AI listens to the conversation and drafts a note, which the doctor then reviews. Researchers will compare this to the usual way of writing notes, looking at doctor burnout, workload, and patient satisfaction. About 300 patients and their doctors will take part in outpatient clinics in Brazil.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a practical way to reduce doctor burnout and improve patient-doctor communication in clinics.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study focused on measuring effects, not a treatment. The AI may not reduce workload as hoped, or could introduce errors in documentation.
