Quit-Smoking showdown: pill vs patch tested in major trial

NCT ID NCT02271919

Summary

This study tested two common quit-smoking treatments to see which works better and what to do next if the first attempt fails. Over 600 smokers received either varenicline (a prescription pill) or combined nicotine patches and lozenges, along with counseling. The trial specifically looked at whether switching treatments or adjusting doses helps people who relapse early on.
