Summary
This study tested whether an intensive smoking cessation program could help head and neck or lung cancer patients quit smoking. The program included counseling, medications, and nicotine replacement therapy, and was compared to standard doctor advice. Researchers wanted to see if helping patients quit smoking could also affect their cancer treatment environment.
