First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new way to help informal workers (like street vendors and farmers) in Thailand quit smoking. Trained village health volunteers provide advice and support, while participants also get messages and counseling through the Line app and a telephone Quitline. The program is compared to standard care at local health centers. The study involves 80 people and lasts about 3 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide an effective, low-cost way to help informal workers quit smoking using community volunteers and smartphone apps.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 80 participants over 3 months. Results may not apply to other populations or settings, and quitting success may be modest.
