New registry to see if freezing or burning kidney tumors works Long-Term

NCT ID NCT05210933

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This registry follows 750 patients with small kidney tumors who are not good candidates for surgery. They receive either cryotherapy (freezing) or radiofrequency ablation (heating) to destroy the tumor. Researchers will track survival, kidney function, and complications over time, and collect blood and urine samples for lab studies.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

cryotherapy and radiofrequency ablation

What this could lead to

If successful, this registry could confirm that ablation is a safe and effective option for controlling small kidney tumors in patients who cannot have surgery.

What could go wrong

This is an observational registry, not a controlled trial, so it cannot prove cause and effect. The study is currently suspended, and results may take years to emerge.
