New 'Smart' foot aims to help veterans walk on slopes, reduce falls

Summary

This study is testing a new prosthetic foot designed to help Veterans with below-knee amputations walk more easily on slopes and uneven ground. Researchers will compare the new Slope Adaptive Foot to a standard hydraulic foot to see which one helps Veterans participate more in daily and social activities and reduces concerns about falling. The study will involve 30 Veterans who currently use a standard energy-storing prosthetic foot.
