Nap time secrets: study tracks toddler brain development

NCT ID NCT06351098

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study follows 180 children aged 3 to 5 years who still nap regularly. Researchers will test their memory before and after naps, track brain changes with MRI, and monitor overnight sleep every 6 months for 18 months. The goal is to understand how napping helps memory and brain development, and what happens when children naturally stop napping.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help parents and doctors understand when children can safely stop napping without harming memory or brain development.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will not test any drug or therapy, and results may not apply to all children.
