Better sleep, healthier kids: new study tests simple sleep program to prevent weight gain
NCT ID NCT06810557
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two approaches to help children ages 6-11 improve their sleep: one-on-one coaching with a nurse using behavioral strategies versus receiving educational handouts. The goal is to see if the coaching program is practical and acceptable for families in a primary care setting. Fifty families will participate, and children will wear devices to track sleep and activity. The study focuses on feasibility, not yet on weight outcomes.

behavioral sleep intervention
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a simple, low-cost way to help children sleep more and reduce the risk of excessive weight gain.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early feasibility study (50 participants) focused on whether the program is practical and acceptable, not yet on weight outcomes. The intervention may not produce lasting sleep changes or affect weight.
