Sleep pill shows promise in fighting dual drug addiction

NCT ID NCT05546515

Summary

This study tested whether a prescription sleep medication called suvorexant could help people who are addicted to both opioids and stimulants like cocaine. Twenty participants who were already receiving standard treatment for opioid addiction were randomly given either the sleep drug or a placebo for 30 days. Researchers measured if the drug reduced their use of opioids and cocaine, lowered their cravings, and improved their sleep and stress levels.
