Sleep coaching may boost blood sugar control in teens with type 1 diabetes
NCT ID NCT06516614
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a sleep coaching program can help 150 teens (ages 11-17) with type 1 diabetes sleep longer and more consistently. Participants will receive either sleep coaching or standard diabetes education. Researchers will measure sleep with a Fitbit, check blood sugar control, and assess thinking skills. The goal is to see if improving sleep can lead to better diabetes management and brain function.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Sleep coaching (behavioral intervention)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, non-drug way to help teens with type 1 diabetes manage their blood sugar and think more clearly.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial testing a behavioral change, which can be hard to stick with. Results may not apply to all teens or lead to lasting improvements.
