Smartwatch study aims to tame irregular heartbeat by fixing sleep

NCT ID NCT06263608

Summary

This study is testing a new care program to see if finding and treating a common sleep disorder (obstructive sleep apnea) can help control atrial fibrillation (AFib), a type of irregular heartbeat. About 209 adults with symptomatic AFib will use a simple home sleep test. If sleep apnea is found, they will receive standard treatment (like a CPAP machine) and their heart rhythm will be monitored for three months using a Fitbit smartwatch to see if AFib episodes decrease. The goal is to see if this structured approach leads to better heart rhythm control.
